210 people contracted viral hepatitis in the Tver region | HEALTH: Medicine | HEALTH

210 people contracted viral hepatitis A in the Tver region. This was reported by the press service of the regional health ministry.

Olga Starikova, the chief infectious disease specialist of the Ministry of Health of the Tver Region, said that out of 210 infected, 44 patients were diagnosed with an acute form of hepatitis A, popularly called “jaundice”.

“This type of hepatitis is transmitted by the fecal-oral and food routes, that is, it is a ‘dirty hands disease’. Today, the main prevention against it is vaccination and personal hygiene, ”said the doctor.

Starikova also stressed that there are no less dangerous hepatitis B and C. They spread through the blood, in utero – from mother to child, through sexual and contact-household methods, for example, when sharing personal hygiene items.

“You can also get infected using untreated needles and tools during tattooing, body piercing, rituals, shaving, manicure,” said the infectious disease specialist.

In the Tver region, 13 cases of acute viral hepatitis B and three cases of hepatitis C were registered. Doctors protect people from these types of diseases by means of vaccination, which is carried out in infancy. In this regard, the majority of the population has immunity against hepatitis B.

Chronic hepatitis is often latent and asymptomatic and often leads to the development of cirrhosis or liver cancer if the person is not examined and the disease is not detected.

Pregnant women, nursing staff, patients with liver damage, recipients and donors, patients attending hemodialysis centers, preoperative patients – all of these populations must first be tested for the presence or absence of this disease.

Every patient diagnosed with hepatitis B or C must annually monitor the state of his liver, be under dispensary observation and undergo preventive treatment. This simple step will help protect your health and the health of your family and friends.

Recall that the American doctor Baruch Samuel Bloomberg, who received the Nobel Prize for research and development of the drug, discovered the hepatitis B virus and developed the first vaccine against it.
