The opening of the hunt has sounded. If this mainly begins in September each year, some departments have opened it from August 23, 2023, such as Moselle, Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin.
On Sunday September 10, many territories urged them to do so: Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne, Dordogne and even Charente.
Others will follow this September 17, until the 25th of the same month to end next year.
Opening dates
The opening dates for hunting are defined by prefectural decrees, a provision provided for in the lawarticle R424-7 of the Environmental Code.
For the year 2023-2024, the opening dates of the hunt are as follows:
August 23, 2023 : Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin and Moselle.
August 26, 2023 : Ain.
September 10, 2023 : Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Alpes-Maritimes, Ardèche, Ariège (in the plain area), Aude, Aveyron, Bouches-du-Rhône, Cantal, Charente, Charente-Maritime, Corrèze, Corse-du-Sud, Creuse, Deux-Sèvres (except Niort), Dordogne, Doubs, Drôme, Gard, Gers, Gironde, Haute-Garonne, Haute-Loire, Haute-Saône, Haute-Savoie, Haute-Vienne, Hautes-Alpes, Hautes-Pyrénées, Hérault, Isère, Jura, Landes, Loire, Lot, Lot-et-Garonne, Lozère, Puy-de-Dôme, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Pyrénées-Orientales, Rhône, Savoie, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne, Territoire de Belfort, Var , Vaucluse and Vienne.
September 17, 2023 : Aisne, Allier, Ardennes, Ariège (in mountain areas), Aube, Calvados, Charente-Maritime, Côte-d’Or, Côtes-d’Armor, Essonne, Eure, Eure-et-Loir, Haute-Marne, Hauts-de-Seine, Ille-et-Vilaine, Indre-et-Loire, Loire-Atlantique, Loiret, Maine-et-Loire, Marne, Mayenne, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, Morbihan, Nièvre, Nord, Oise, Pas-de-Calais, Saône-et-Loire, Seine-et-Marne, Seine-Maritime, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-d’Oise, Val-de-Marne, Vendée, Vosges, Yonne, Yvelines.
September 24, 2023 : Cher, Deux-Sèvres for Niort, Indre, Loir-et-Cher, Manche, Orne and Sarthe.

For more information, you can contact the hunters’ federation in your department. There are 94 in total, except for Paris, Yvelines, Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-d’Oise.
In the overseas departments
In the overseas departments, hunting reopened much earlier:
August 26, 2023 in Saint-Pierre and Miquelon. It will be closed on December 31, 2024 inclusive. January 1, 2023: in Reunion. It will be closed on December 31, 2023; July 29, 2023: in Guadeloupe. It will be closed on January 7, 2024; July 30, 2023: Martinique. It will be closed on January 31, 2024.
