- Police said the girl was “scared and hot” after being left in the car for about 45 minutes.

A Florida grandfather was arrested after police said he left his 1-year-old granddaughter in the back seat of a rental car returned to the airport.
“The little girl was scared and hot but luckily in good health when the paramedics examined her,” said Andrew Grant, a spokesman for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, in a expression.
According to the statement, MPs assigned to Daytona Beach International Airport responded to a report from a Hertz employee at around 6pm after they found a 1-year-old girl locked in the back seat of a vehicle parked in the return parking lot.
Police said officers arrived and found that the girl was breathing normally, but her face was warm and streaked with dry tears.
The child would be left in the vehicle, parked in the unshaded parking lot from 5:13 pm.
MPs and airport staff were unable to establish initial contact with the driver. But the 1-year-old’s mother called the sheriff’s office soon after learning that her father had left her daughter in the rental car rather than at her home, according to her statement.
Investigators found that David Towner, 62, was babysitting his 1-year-old niece for the day he left her in the rental car when he returned it, according to the statement.
Towner was filled with remorse and cooperated with deputies and was charged with child neglect, police said.
The 1-year-old has finally reunited with the mother and a citizenship award will be given to the Hertz employee who found the baby.
