Lots of characters in the war of stars Universe just doesn’t get enough screen time, which means fans have to rely on TV shows, comics, and video games to get the full story. Two characters who tend to be billed third rate are Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, the adoptive parents of Luke Skywalker, who later became one of the most powerful Jedi in the world War of stars’ Existence.
The couple is not there war of stars long before they’re killed, but there’s more to this couple than meets the eye. There are a surprising number of interesting facts about Owen and Beru that are just die-hard war of stars Fans really know, and that includes delving into material outside of the movies to learn more.
10 Origins of the early design
Many movie scripts undergo several drafts and revisions until the fine details are ironed out, and war of stars was no different. In fact, the differences between the original script and the final film are extraordinary, with very few similarities beyond a basic plot. Dark Horse Comics eventually adapted the original script into comic book form to make the differences more apparent.
According to the book, The Making of Star Wars: The Definitive Story Behind the Original Movie, Owen and Beru were supposed to be anthropologists who worked on the planet Yavin. At one point, Drafts also had Owen and Kenobi as brothers, but that wasn’t reflected in the final draft. The idea was changed again and the two became humble moisture builders.
9 Moisture growth in the blood
It seems like both Owen and Beru were destined for the lives of the Moisture Farmer, and some might say it was in their blood from the start. Owen’s father, Cliegg, certainly understood the mechanics of the process and was the first person to own Lars’ homestead (which later became Luke’s childhood home).
Beru, on the other hand, came from several generations of moisture farmers in her family, although this wasn’t really her first choice. When she married Owen, however, the two decided to devote themselves to a simple life and make the most of a challenging career choice.
8 Uncle Owen’s mother died early
The prequel by George Lucas war of stars Trilogy introduced the audience to a new member of the immediate Skywalker family – Cliegg Lars, the man who was to marry Shmi Skywalker before her untimely death with the Tusken Raiders. However, the story of Owen’s birth mother is not that well known.
Her name was Aika, and she met Cliegg on a core planet far from the territories of the Outer Rim. Unfortunately, she died when Owen was very young, prompting Cliegg to return with him to the family’s moisture farm on Tatooine. From then on, his fate was determined as one of the most important “nobodies” in the world war of stars Universe.
7 Aunt Beru wanted to open a restaurant
It’s safe to say that Aunt Beru wasn’t a prominent role in the films, but that’s not a bad thing. In her remote little Outer Rim existence on Tatooine, she and her husband led a humble and relatively quiet life as a moisture farmer, but she had an ambition to do something else.
In the short story compendium book From a certain point of view, found out she had taken a cooking class at school and her teacher told her she was a natural at making blue milk cheese. She planned to open her own restaurant in Anchorhead, a small town on Tatooine.
6 They never knew the truth about Anakin
It’s easy to see the first one war of stars film and suspect that Owen and Beru knew of Anakin’s fall to the dark side – especially given the Tusken Raiders slaughter in Star Wars: Attack of the Clonesthat anticipated Anakin’s fall. Obi-Wan asked her to take care of Luke and raise him, with the expectation that he would be allowed to visit and train the boy in secret. Owen didn’t want any of it, however.
This was because he believed Anakin was indeed dead and gone. He blamed Kenobi for his death and also blamed Anakin for some of that guilt for choosing the Jedi lifestyle. He was determined to keep Luke from going the same route and falling victim to the same “doom”.
5 You had several run-ins with Kenobi
It became obvious war of stars Fans that Obi-Wan Kenobi was not welcome to Lars (and for good reason). However, Kenobi made several guest appearances in her life and even went so far as to meet a very young Luke, whom the boy could not remember.
Kenobi was a silent protector of Luke and the Lars family for years. It was he who fought off the armed enforcers from Jabba the Hutt when they came to collect a water tax and saved Owen’s life from a Wookiee bounty hunter (which earned him a little reluctant respect). Even so, it did not improve the relationship between the Jedi and the farmers.
4 They couldn’t have children
Although Owen and Beru were a young couple at the time the Clone Wars came to a terrible end, they were unable to father children. This is mentioned in From a certain point of view when Beru talks about their struggle, which led them to believe they would be childless for the rest of their lives.
In the end, their prayers were answered when Obi-Wan Kenobi brought them infant Luke Skywalker and asked them to protect him and raise him as their own. The couple would go on to say that it was the best decision of their lives, even if Owen seemed more harsh and rigid than Beru to young Luke.
3 Cut scenes from the prequel trilogy
A young Owen and Beru (played by Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse) were supposed to have more screen time in the prequel trilogy, but their scenes have been cut. This is unfortunate as it would have created a greater family bond between the characters.
A cut scene shows Padmé and Beru preparing dinner and talking about their different lives. However, this scene was retained for the novel link to the film. Both Edgerton and Piesse are used in the Obi Wan Kenobi TV series, so there’s more to tell.
2 Shelagh Fraser was the actor who portrayed Beru
Aunt Beru was originally played by English actress Shelagh Fraser, who began filming in April 1976. Fraser wasn’t a well-known actress, but she was busy. She has 77 credits in her name, many of them from roles on various television shows. Unfortunately, Fraser died in 2000.
1 Phil Brown was the actor who portrayed Owen
Actor Phil Brown portrayed Owen in the original war of stars Movie; he had a long and storied acting career with 84 credits on his name and starred in films such as The Pink Panther strikes again, Superman and Chaplin.
He was also a great face in science fiction and war of stars Conventions, and he even met actor Joel Edgerton, who played a younger Owen in the prequels. Unfortunately, Brown died in 2006 at the age of 89.
