A California court has imposed 20 years in prison on a man who arranged weapons for the couple who committed an attack in San Bernardino five years ago. In December 2015 they shot and killed fourteen colleagues of the male perpetrator with the weapons.
The gunmen, who themselves were killed by police bullets, were radicalized Muslims who had been planning attacks for some time. The now convicted man was aware of this: they had been friends for years and they also planned attacks together, which they never carried out.
False statement
When the two committed the attack in San Bernardino, they no longer had contact with the man. But he had the firearms they used a few years earlier bought especially for them.
The judge says the man cannot be held responsible for the massacre, but condemns him for providing weapons to terrorists. He has also been found guilty of making a false statement. At first he had said that he had bought the weapons in question for himself.
Christmas celebration
The attack at the end of 2015 was on a Christmas celebration for employees of a care center. In addition to 14 deaths, 22 were also injured. The gunmen were shot by officers a few hours later. A few weeks later, the now convicted man was arrested. He has been detained ever since.
