The Confederation has started to equip its national roads with fast terminals. Those in the Eich rest area (LU), on the A2, were inaugurated on Friday.
The first rapid charging station (SRR) for electric vehicles on a rest area of national roads was inaugurated on Friday on the A2 near Eich (LU). In the next ten years, 99 rest areas will be equipped and, ultimately, it will be 160 rest and refueling places that will be equipped with electric terminals on the entire network of national roads, said Friday the Federal Office roads (Ofrou). Electric vehicle drivers will therefore have 600 charging points.

The Insseli area on the A2, near Eich (LU), is the first to have such an installation. The equipment of rest areas in SRR is one of the measures of the Confederation’s roadmap to encourage electric mobility, adopted at the end of 2018. Charging infrastructures are essential to the continued spread of electric vehicles, underlined Friday the Ofu.

These stations must be designed in a “non-discriminatory” manner with regard to the types of vehicles. They must allow recharging of vehicles with different types of connectors.

At the end of 2019, the share of electric vehicles (28,716 vehicles) in the entire fleet (6,160,262) was 0.6%. In that year, the number of electric cars among the new registrations more than doubled.
