18 Chinese Planes Siege the Island, Taiwan sends fighter jets

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – China stifling to see Taiwan getting closer to America the last few times. Moreover, since last Thursday, American diplomats visited Taiwan to strengthen ties between the two countries in various ways. In response, China sent dozens of planes to Taiwan.

Quoted from Reuters, a total of 18 planes were sent by China to Taiwan. They fly around the island nation with a population of approximately 24 million. China claims the aircraft delivery is part of a joint military exercise they have planned.

“On September 18, two H-6 bombers, eight J-16 fighters, four J-10 fighters and four J-11 fighters were observed, which had violated the Taiwan Air Defense Identification Zone,” the Ministry of Defense said on Friday. 18 September 2020.

Responding to the action, Taiwan sent their warplanes back to drive the planes from China. According to local media report Liberty Times, 17 times Taiwanese warplanes circled the island to expel China.

The fighter itself does not fly ’empty-handed’. Missiles are pinned to their bodies, bracing for the worst if the escalation with China escalates.

In Beijing, spokesman for Chinese Defense Minister Ren Guoqiang called the actions of dozens of their military aircraft as normal. This, he said, was necessary to safeguard China’s sovereignty.

“Their presence is a necessary action to respond to the situation in Taiwan and protect territorial integrity and interests,” said Ren Guoqiang.

Some suspect China is worried about Taiwan’s closer ties with America. Because, America itself is the enemy of China. The closer Taiwan is to America, the more difficult it will be for China to claim Taiwan as part of its country.
