17 Symptoms of the corona virus are less common according to WHO, recognize when cases soar

KONTAN.CO.ID – The daily cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia set a new record, following a new variant of the corona virus that is increasingly spreading. The public must be more vigilant, including by recognizing the symptoms of the corona virus.

Launching data from the Covid-19 Task Force, on Monday (21/6) there were an additional 14,536 new cases of the corona virus. This is the highest daily figure since the pandemic started in Indonesia.

The additional new cases of Covid-19 brought Indonesia’s total corona virus infections to reach 2 million.

A new, more contagious variant of the corona virus is behind the spike in cases in a number of areas in Indonesia, such as Jakarta. The new dominant variants are mainly B.1.617.2 or the Delta variant which was first discovered in India.

Obviously, the public must be increasingly aware of the spike in cases, including by recognizing the symptoms of the corona virus. Launching the official WHO website, the following are the symptoms of the new corona virus:

The most common coronavirus symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Dry cough
  • Fatigue

Less common coronavirus symptoms that may affect some patients:

  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Nasal congestion
  • Conjunctivitis (also known as pink eye)
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Different types of skin rash
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Shivering or dizziness

Other less common and new symptoms of coronavirus:

  • Irritability
  • Confusion
  • Decreased consciousness (sometimes associated with seizures)
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Sleep disturbance
  • More severe and less common neurological complications, such as stroke, encephalitis, delirium, and nerve damage

Symptoms of severe coronavirus:

  • Hard to breathe
  • Loss of appetite
  • Confusion
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • High temperature (above 38°C)

“The symptoms experienced are usually mild and appear gradually. Some people become infected but only have mild symptoms,” the WHO said on its official website.

In general, symptoms begin to appear about five to six days after exposure. “However, the time for these symptoms to appear can range from 1 to 14 days,” the WHO said.

WHO emphasizes that people of all ages who have a fever and/or cough associated with difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, or loss of ability to speak or move, should seek medical attention immediately.

“If possible, contact your health care provider, hotline or health facility in advance, so you can be directed to the right clinic,” the WHO said.
