16 women with breast cancer from Hospital de La Princesa start the Camino de Santiago

A group of 16 women affected by breast cancer and patients of the Hospital Universitario de La Princesa in Madrid, accompanied by professionals who treat them, began this Saturday The road to Santiago in the 4th edition of the project ‘El Camino de tu Vida’.

They will travel the last 110 kilometers of the Camino de Santiago in a group, in a unique experience of coexistence, effort and overcoming with the common denominator in all of them of having or having had the disease.

The traveling companions of these participants will be the medical oncologist and coordinator of the project, Dr. Anabel Ballesterosplus two resident doctors in the specialty, a male and female nurse, a nursing care technician, a psychologist representing the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and an administrative assistant from the Oncology service.

The starting point for the beginning of the path has been the town of Sarriá, and for five days they will travel an average of 25 kilometers a day until they reach Santiago de Compostela.

A support bus will always accompany the group. Each of these days will be complemented with a session led by the psychologist, in which the pilgrims will have the opportunity to share the emotions of the day, to end with a time of relaxation.
