16 players from Vasco da Gama tested positive

Sao Paulo – At the Brazilian premier league club Vasco da Gama, 16 football professionals tested positive for the corona virus.

The club from Rio de Janeiro, which was allowed to resume team training on Monday, announced this in a video statement.

The club said it had carried out a total of 350 tests by Sunday. Among other things, the players, their families, the coaching staff and other employees were tested.

Quarantined players

“The players who tested positive are in quarantine. They will not come into contact with the others until we are certain that they are no longer at risk of spreading the virus,” said team doctor Marcos Teixeira.

The season in Brazil has been interrupted since mid-March, and more than 29,000 people have died as a result of the corona pandemic.

More than 500,000 infections

The number of infections continues to rise sharply in Brazil. On Monday, the largest South American country had more than 500,000 infections, making it second only to the United States worldwide.
