Koyilandi: The incident in which a student died after eating ice cream in Kozhikode’s Arikullam, the police said it was a case of murder. Ahmed Hasan Rifai (12), son of Koroth Muhammadali, Arikulam, was killed. Police arrested the child’s close relative in the incident.
Following the suspicion of murder, the investigation was under the supervision of senior police officials. According to the police, the relative mixed poison in the ice cream family pack and gave it to the child at his house. The child’s mother and siblings were not at home at the time.
The child ate ice cream on Sunday. Following this, Ahmed Hasan Rifai, who vomited and became weak, died the next day in a private hospital in Kozhikode.
The Health Department, Food Safety Department, Police and Forensic Department conducted the inspection and took samples for testing. In the postmortem report, traces of ammonium phosphorus were found in the body. Following this, the Koilandi police were conducting a detailed investigation.
