10.35pm: Car overturned in the water at Appingedam

At the Fivelpoort roundabout on the N989 in Appingedam on Saturday evening, a motorist overturned his car into the water. Witnesses said it was a one-vehicle crash.

It is not known if there were any injuries. The police allegedly arrested one person.

21.00: Fire in an underground paper container in Stad

The Groningen fire brigade had to respond to a fire in an underground paper container in Emingaheerd in the Beijum district on Saturday evening.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control. Fireworks are suspected to have caused the fire.

18.25: Fire at Chemiepark Delfzijl

A fire broke out at the Teijin Aramin company at the Delfzijl chemical park on Saturday evening. It is not known exactly what is burning. You can see a lot of smoke being released.

The fire was initially put out by the Falck company fire brigade. ‘Have a first knock down done and it appears to have been successful,” says a spokesman for the Groningen fire brigade.

A spray tanker and cherry picker from Delfzijl’s corps are on site to assist if needed, but their deployment was not yet required.

6pm: Police impound the car of a 63-year-old repeat offender

Police impounded the car of a 63-year-old motorist on the A28 near the city of Groningen on Saturday. He was caught driving without a valid driving license for the fifth time.

10.30: Cars collide in Kiel-Windeweer

Two cars collided on the Dorpsstraat in Kiel-Windeweer on Saturday morning. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed. The road is temporarily closed at the scene of the accident.

It is unclear whether there were any injuries. It is also not yet known how the collision could have occurred.
