11,000 have not arrived after the second vaccination; part due to severe side effects after the first dose

In Latvia, 11 thousand people have not come after the second dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, reports Rus.LSM.lv, referring to the information of the National Health Service (NSS).

The NSA explained this situation for a number of reasons. “There are situations when, unfortunately, there are people who received the first pot and went to his world. Not because of the vaccine, but because of age, disease. There are reasons why people get sick with Covid-19 quickly after the first dose, especially in the spring. They waited a certain time and only now can get a second pot. Someone was waiting for the moment when the vaccines would be allowed to mix – if the first was AstraZeneca, then the second can be received by Pfizer or Moderna, ”said Inga Vasiljeva, a representative of the Vaccination Project Division of the NSS.

At the same time, the NSA did not hide the fact that there were people who simply changed their mind after receiving the first dose. “Yes, there are people who have had quite serious side effects and they do not know if this is normal or not, and are skeptical about the second dose and whether there will be more serious side effects,” Vasilyeva said.

So far, no one has called or offered to complete the vaccination course before the second vaccination. But within a month, the NSS plans to start doing so.

For certain vaccines – Pfizer or Moderna – it is very important that the second dose is given no sooner than a certain period of time. Of course, this period can be a little longer than written in the instructions, ”Vasilyeva explained.

The NSA also recalled that a single dose of AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna did not provide adequate protection against Covid-19.
