Then eleven years later Chafik Elketani, 34 years old, Moroccan, caused another accident in which his compatriot, Fennane Noureddine, 31 years old, died. And who knows if he will cry again this time … The fact is that for that sickness that took place on December 5, 2010 along the Tirrenica state road 18, which leads from Lamezia to Gizzeria, Elketani served five years in prison. At the time, there was still no crime of road murder. The investigation found that the Moroccan was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. After his arrest, he tried to justify himself by saying that someone had cut his way, “a circumstance that does not correspond to the truth” cut short the then prosecutor Salvatore Vitelli.

That day he was without a license

Meanwhile, in these hours in Lamezia Terme, where almost all the cyclists killed lived, the news of the ninth death caused by the reckless driving of Elketani has created shock and bewilderment. Among the eight victims – they were all passionate cyclists: Pasquale De Luca, Francesco and Domenico Strangis, Domenico Palazzo, Giovanni Cannizzaro, Fortunato Bernardi, Rosario Perri and Vinicio Poppin – there was also Rosario Perri, while Gennaro, his brother, was wounded together with the lawyer Fabio Davoli.
