The officers from the Mainz old town area achieved a successful search on Wednesday, March 10th, 2021.

At around 4:30 p.m., the owner of a jewelry store in downtown Mainz reported the theft of around 30 high-quality gold bracelets via an emergency call. According to the owner of the jeweler, a supposed customer entered the shop beforehand and was shown several bracelets.

At a favorable moment, the perpetrator grabbed the displays, then ran out of the shop with the high-quality stolen goods and fled in an initially unknown direction. The city center of Mainz was immediately attacked by the police as part of intensive search measures. A few hundred meters from the scene of the crime, minutes after the crime, the fugitive man was found and checked by a radio patrol from the Mainz 1 police station. Parts of the stolen goods could be found by the police, hidden behind a house on Rheinstrasse.

In the course of the first police investigation, there were indications of a 19-year-old accomplice from Wiesbaden. After the Mainz public prosecutor was involved, the 19-year-old was visited at his home address. The apartment was searched for more stolen property on the basis of a search ordered by the judge. Both men were identified. The stolen goods found could be returned to the owner of the jewelry store. The total value of the stolen jewelry is around 30,000 euros.
