It is now a tradition that the Herdecke fire brigade is invited to the annual training drive for boat crews and drivers with a trailer license from the DLRG Hattingen. This year, 13 boats from the individual DLRG local associations from the Ennepe-Ruhr district and Hagen, the Hattingen fire brigade and the Herdecke fire brigade were launched at the Rheinorange slipway in Duisburg. At the Rheinorange the Ruhr flows into the Rhine and the port of Duisburg is not far away. A total of around 70 kilometers of the river were covered with the 13 boats.
While the boat crews were on the Rhine, the drivers used the time for driving exercises. Among other things, the vehicles drove in a closed association from Bochum to Duisburg and from Duisburg to Wesel. Maneuvering exercises were then carried out at the breakpoints. Even on the water, unusual maneuvers were practiced in the heavily trafficked Rhine. Especially on the Rhine there is a different environment than on the Ruhr in Herdecke, where shipping is essentially limited to recreational athletes and the flow speed does not usually exceed 1 km / h due to commercial shipping and the higher flow speed of 12 km / h.
On the 11-hour training day, the six emergency services from the Herdecke fire brigade were able to gain a lot of impressions and expand their experience for future missions. With such exercises and at well-developed slip areas, the Herdeck fire-fighting lifeboat “Albert Jungheim” is in the water within a very short time and ready for its assignment.
