This was the résumé of a nightly inspection by federal police officers of a 36-year-old driver from Varnsdorf in the Czech Republic in Großschönau. At 12:55 a.m., the officers stopped a white Opel Combo van that had entered the Czech Republic and checked the driver. Old Bautzen number plates from 2003 were on the vehicle. The vehicle was neither registered nor insured. The Czech did not have a driver’s license and, according to the rapid drug test, had consumed amphetamines. His journey ended here and he is confronted with a criminal complaint for driving without compulsory insurance and without a driver’s license, for misusing license plates and for driving a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicating substances. The state police took over the investigation.
