The 2021 municipal elections are the “number one focus” of the new Braga district of PSD, today elected, in a unique list headed by Paulo Cunha, president of the Chamber of Famalicão.
1,254 militants went to the polls, 1,195 of whom voted for Paulo Cunha’s list.
There were also 51 white votes and eight null votes.
Speaking to Lusa, Paulo Cunha said that the 2021 municipalities are “the number one focus”, with the aim of maintaining the current nine chambers already held by the PSD and trying to win over the remaining five.
According to the new president of the Social Democratic district, the reconquest of the Barcelos Chamber, currently led by the PS, will be one of the big bets.
“The current Mayor of Barcelos [Miguel Costa Gomes] you cannot re-apply, due to the mandate limitation law, and this will be an opportunity that the PSD will certainly know how to take advantage of, in line with its responsibilities, ”he said.
Paulo Cunha will have as “vices” José Novais, from Barcelos, and Carlos Cação, from Vila Verde.
The Mayor of Braga, Ricardo Rio, will be the chairman of the district assembly.
Paulo Cunha had already led the PSD district of Braga between 2010 and 2014, the year in which he gave place to MEP José Manuel Fernandes.
The PSD leads the chambers of Braga, Vieira do Minho, Amares, Famalicão, Terras de Bouro, Esposende, Póvoa de Lanhoso, Celorico de Basto and Vila Verde.
In the case of Braga, the chamber was won by a coalition that brought together PSD, CDS-PP and PPM.
In Vieira do Minho, Amares and Famalicão, there was also a coalition, but only between the PSD and the CDS-PP.
The PS holds Barcelos, Cabeceiras de Basto, Fafe and Guimarães, while the Câmara de Vizela was won by an independent list, led by Vítor Hugo Salgado.
