For Zverev, who played in the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the second time in his career, it was the 11th defeat in the 18th match against Medvedev. At the press conference after the match, the German answered questions not only about sports.

One of them related to the legal problems Zverev has been facing for several months. The tennis player’s former partner – Brenda Patea – accused him of violence. The woman was allegedly injured during one of the quarrels when they were still a couple.

At the end of October, the first decision in the case was issued. A Berlin court fined Zverev PLN 450,000. euro. As “Deutche Welle” reported, this is how the local justice system acts when “the judge decides that the case is simple and does not require a trial.”

However, Zverev did not accept the punishment, which means that a court hearing will take place in May this year. At Friday’s press conference, the German tennis player was asked how legal problems had influenced his attitude in recent weeks and whether they had any impact on Friday’s defeat.

Zverev responded to the allegations

– No, because I already talked about it before. Anyone with at least an average IQ can see and understand what’s going on. I don’t mind questions about this case, but I hope you see all this too, Zverev said.

The German added that the greatest influence on his defeat against Medvedev was the infection he suffered after the quarter-final meeting with Carlos Alcaraz. – At the end of the second set I felt like I was losing energy. I didn’t feel good, said the German.

– After the match against Alcaraz, I had a fever and other cold symptoms, which did not help me recover before the semi-final. And I spent a lot of time on the court. I felt worse, and you can’t win against Daniół if you don’t play at 100 percent. – he added.

– He is the type of player who does not give up any points, you have to work hard for each one. When I wasn’t able to go into longer rallies, the match became much more difficult. Even though I was close to winning the third and fourth sets, I wasn’t myself anymore. I played more for survival, Zverev summed up.

Medvedev will play against Jannik Sinner in Sunday’s final. On Friday, the Italian unexpectedly defeated the 10-time winner of the Australian Open and the leader of the world ranking – Novak Djokovic – 6:1, 6:2, 6:7(6), 6:3.
