The Zuyderland hospital in Heerlen and Geleen will continue to use Decathlon’s modified snorkel goggles as protective masks on the corona ICs.

The use of the so-called Covid Lifesaver Masks was stopped this week after a warning from, among others, designer TU Delft because they would not meet the safety standard. The goggles were an alternative to FFP2 masks, which have been more extensively tested and are recommended nationwide. Zuyderland says in a statement that the fit factor, the extent to which masks connect to the face, is of great importance. But for both the FFP2 and the snorkel masks, they do not fit one hundred percent around the face.

The snorkel masks, according to the specialists, are not inferior to the FFP2 variant and therefore remain available for personnel, who must always test the connection to the face.
