Zug Education Director Calls for Clear Stance on Hamas Terror in Schools

Teachers should take a clear stance against Hamas terror when it comes to the Middle East conflict in schools in Zug. This is what Zug education director Stehpan Schleiss (SVP) is calling for in an open letter to all schools in the canton.

“When it comes to terrorism, no ‘yes, but…’”: That’s the subject of an open letter dated October 19th. In this letter, Zug Education Director Stephan Schleiss (SVP) addresses all teachers in the cantonal schools and the PH Zug.

The “Tages-Anzeiger” made this public on Friday. In this open letter, Schleiss appeals to all schools to take a clear position in the Middle East conflict, namely on the side of Israel. Schleiss refers to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who stated in a government statement that there was “only one place” for Germany at this moment, “the place firmly on Israel’s side.” Any “yes, but” is completely out of place in view of the brutality and contempt for humanity of the terrorists.

Schleiss addresses this speech in the letter and writes himself: “No ‘yes, but…’ when it comes to terrorism.” Schleiss writes that no criticism of Israel’s political decisions would justify Hamas terror.

Schleiss told the “Tages-Anzeiger” that this was “by no means” a muzzle for teachers. “With this letter I would like to express that this debate in schools must be conducted objectively,” he is quoted as saying. The letter is “not intended as direct instructions for specific lessons.”
