The leading creator of Czech contemporary music and pianist Marek Kopelent received the Gold Award of the Authors’ Protection Association (OSA) for lifetime contribution in memoriam on Thursday. Just like last year, Marek Ztracený became the most successful composer of popular music and the most successful lyricist. This year he added a win in the Popular Song of the Year category for the song Moje milá.
Music composer and founder of the Golden Kids trio Bohuslav Ondráček (in memoriam) and the composition Jdi za štětsem, whose authors are Karel Svoboda and Zdeněk Borovec, were entered into the OSA Golden Fund. On Thursday, the organizers handed out prizes in 15 categories at the Vzlet cultural center in Prague.
OSA honored successful music composers, lyricists and publishers for the eighteenth time. Results are generated from union statistics. He compiles the charts from the most successful songs in the last two years. The only categories that are not awarded on the basis of data, but by a decision of the OSA Supervisory Board, are the OSA Gold Award for Contribution to Czech Music, the OSA Gold Fund for the long-term most played compositions or authors, and the Award for the Promotion and Dissemination of Czech Music.
For the second year, rapper Viktor Sheen was awarded the most streamed author. “The inclusion of the Most Successful Streamed Artist category was a response to the dynamically growing playback of music from internet platforms, which is completely dominant among the younger generation. The figures for the last period show us that this way of consuming music will continue to grow, which is why I am glad that the Annual Awards OSA moves with the times and reflects this trend when awarding,” said Roman Strejček, Chairman of the OSA Board of Directors.
Music composer Martin Smolek was successful in classical music, becoming the most successful composer and author of classical music abroad. His composition Agnus Dei also placed first in the Serious Composition of the Year category. In popular music, the most successful author abroad was Prokop Holoubek from the band Midi Lidi. The award for the most successful publisher was defended by Universal Music Publishing.
The most successful young author of classical music is Vojtěch Frank, and the rapper Denis Bennett alias Earth has succeeded in popular music. In addition to the glass statuette, the category winners also received a check worth 50,000 crowns, which OSA donates annually to successful young authors.
During the evening, Bára Basiková and Jakub Hübner, Kateřina Marie Tichá and Martin Chobot, Elizabeth Kopecká and Martin Chodúr, Jakub Vaňas and En.dru, singer Kaczi and dancer Anna Kroupová with clarinetist Kamil Doležal performed. More information can be found at pages OSA.
OSA is an association of composers, lyricists, music publishers and other rights holders, such as heirs. Manages copyrights to musical works. As of December 31, 2021, OSA contractually represented 10,530 rights holders, including 7,373 living authors, 2,999 heirs, and 158 publishers. 468 authors and ten publishers have recently signed a representation contract with OSA. The OSA has not yet disclosed the data for last year.
