Zoetermeers Dagblad | Vulnerable people feel abandoned by the cabinet

In the Netherlands that the government has in mind now that the corona pandemic has entered a new phase, people with vulnerable health are behind the times, according to Elkein, the network for people with a disability or chronic illness. “People feel abandoned,” director Illya Soffer told Trouw in response to the long-term vision that the cabinet has just released.

In consultations with the government, Elkein collaborates with the Dutch Patient Federation and patient organizations such as the Lung Fund. But the inclusive strategy they had in mind is not reflected in the long-term vision. Soffer: “Too little account is taken of people who are still at risk of health damage from corona.”

According to Elkein, part of society is now withdrawing because face masks are disappearing from the streets and the government is radiating that corona is over. “We get fifty to sixty reports a week from people who are concerned and who ask questions about the risk they run,” says Soffer.
