Zero tuition: these are the discounts at public universities – Education – Life

In recent months, student claims for having zero enrollment for this second semester of 2020 have taken on relevance. Demonstrations, sit-ins and hunger strikes have been some of the means used to ask the authorities for these financial relief.

Given this, 15 of the 32 public universities in the country have guaranteed free tuition for their undergraduate students, although one of them (the District) is just a few steps away from making this wish fully come true.

All this has been achieved thanks to contributions from the Ministry of Education through the Solidarity Fund for Education, as well as resources provided by governments, mayors and the universities themselves.

In the case of the other 17 remaining institutions, the process has been more complicated. Some because they depend economically only on the National Government and not on territorial entities, which has made it difficult to obtain the necessary money, as in the case of the National University or the Pedagogical University.

Despite this, significant discounts have been given, most of which consist of free admission for low-income students in strata 1 and 2, as well as a reduction in the value to pay for other socioeconomic levels.

With all this, there is still a university (the Pedagogical and Technological of Colombia – Uptc) that still does not apply a discount in undergraduate degrees, although a recent communication expresses that the procedures to manage relief are advanced.

Another institution, the University of the Amazon, is the only one that currently has no information available in this regard.
