Zero deaths, 68 positive tests and 48 patients in reaction

Another decrease in virological tests and new positive cases, this Tuesday, August 18. In addition, no death linked to Covid-19 was recorded yesterday, Monday, August 17 in hospital structures.

Reading press release number 170 on the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in Senegal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Social Action, Doctor Mamadou Ndiaye announced that 68 new people tested positive coronavirus were detected on a sample of 926 tests. Thus, a positivity rate of 7.34% is noted following these results of virological examinations.

25 community cases reported

The positive cases are divided between 41 contact cases followed by the services of the said ministry, 2 imported cases registered at the Blaise Diagne International Airport (Aibd) of Diass and 25 cases resulting from community transmission. This third group of newly infected is listed in the following districts or municipalities: Mbour (3), Bignona (2), Ouakam (2), Bambey (1), Cambèrène (1), Colobane (1), Diourbel (1), Hlm 5 (1), Kédougou (1), Khombole (1), Kolda (1), Liberté 6 (1), Matam (1), Mékhé (1), Mermoz (1), Ouest Foire (1), Patte d ‘Goose (1), Popenguine (1), Yarakh (1), Ziguinchor (1) and Capture Zone (1).

The ministry’s services have also identified 48 serious cases in the country. They are currently being taken care of in the intensive care units.

However, the Director of Prevention, Dr El Hadji Mamadou Ndiaye said that 39 hospitalized patients were tested negative twice in an interval of 48 hours, therefore declared cured. Better, he reassures, the state of health of the other patients is stable.

Since March 2, Senegal has recorded 12,305 positive cases for the coronavirus, including 7,767 people cured, 256 dead, 1 evacuated (finally died in France). So, they are 4281 sick to be under treatment.

The Ministry of Health and Social Action to urge the populations to strictly observe individual and collective prevention measures, especially the compulsory wearing of a mask, physical distancing of at least one (1) meter in places of gatherings or public and frequent hand washing in sight to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Dr Ndiaye to inform that disposable masks should not exceed 3 or 4 hours of use at most and should be considered as waste afterwards. Those that are reusable should always be washed and ironed.
