Zenfone 10: A Compact Flagship Phone with Top-Class Specifications and Headphone Jack

There are those who are crazy about smaller phones, but discontinued iPhone Mini investment and few small alternatives suggest that it is a loud minority. Asus does not care about this and continues on the wrapped and relatively compact track with the phone series Zenfone. When the Zenfone 10 now sees the light of day, top-class specifications include a 5.9-inch screen and dimensions of 146.5 × 68.1 × 9.4 mm, which Asus says is a size that “fits perfectly in the hand.”

With the 6.1-inch models iPhone 14 and Galaxy S23 as more objective comparisons, it can be stated that the Zenfone 10 is marginally smaller, but the trio is significantly larger than the discontinued 5.4-inch iPhone 13 at 131.5 × 64.2 × 7.7 etc. However, Asus’ newcomer belongs to the more compact phones that focus on flagship class. The Zenfone 10 is also one of the few phones in the segment to retain the headphone jack.

The Zenfone 10 screen is an AMOLED variant with a resolution of 2,400 × 1,080 pixels, a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz and 1,100 nits as the highest brightness. Good color accuracy with a Delta-E value below 1 is also promised. These details are on paper unchanged from last year’s Zenfone 9. Also unchanged is the 4,300 mAh battery, which can be charged up to 30 watts with cable or 15 watts wirelessly.

Very old, a little new

Just like last year, Asus is betting on being able to use the phone with one hand, where the user interface and a customizable button are the keys to achieving that. The camera set-up also follows from the previous model, where the back is equipped with a sensor of 50 megapixels and one of 13. The camera on the front is 32 megapixels but uses pixel binning for images of 8 megapixels.

The biggest upgrade is the step to Android 13 and the octa-core system chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The primary memory also sees an upgrade to the LPDDR5X type. With UFS 4.0 storage, these speeds are higher than the previous model. The phone can be configured with 8 GB of primary memory and 128 or 256 GB of storage, or a top configuration with 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage.

Depending on the configuration, there are different colors, with the simplest only available with a black back and the most advanced in black or green. The intermediate variant is also available in red, blue and white. The most expensive variant starts at SEK 10,999, while the other two cost SEK 9,499 and SEK 9,999, respectively – about a thousand bucks more than last year’s Zenfone.
