Berlin. A week ago the management of the logistics company Zeitfracht spoke openly for the first time about thoughts of emigration from Berlin. Now it comes out: The plans are evidently further developed than previously known. Because according to information from the Berliner Morgenpost, the company is currently already in concrete sales talks about the previous company headquarters on Charlottenburger Friedrich-Olbricht-Damm. Zeitfracht did not want to confirm this on request. “We do not comment on rumors,” said a spokesman.

However, there should be specific interest from two possible buyers. According to the information, the courier express parcel service DPD, which already uses a large part of the Zeitfracht site, is also offering around the property. At first nothing was known about the second interested party. Zeitfracht, according to someone familiar with the process, wants to use the money from the sale to invest in new property and real estate. Whether that will be in Berlin, however, is open.

Company complained about lengthy registration and deregistration of trucks

With an annual turnover of more than 500 million euros, the logistics company Zeitfracht is one of the larger companies in the capital. The company, which has larger locations in Erfurt, Leipzig and Heeslingen in Lower Saxony, has around 3,000 employees across Germany, 1,000 of whom are registered at the headquarters in Berlin. Zeitfracht has recently grown primarily in the logistics sector: the book wholesaler KVN has been part of the group since 2019, and since last year the electronics products dealer First Wise, which supplies around 1,800 online and retailers.

Zeitfracht had expressed criticism of the Berlin administration in a morning post conversation. “We registered and de-registered 30 trucks in Berlin. At our branches there were around 400. It took us two days to do this. We spent ten months doing it in Berlin, ”explained the company’s chief financial officer, Wolfram Simon-Schröter. Simon-Schröter also criticized the lack of exchange with Berlin politics. In Thuringia, for example, companies like Zeitfracht are rolling out the red carpet.

Berlin’s economic administration contradicts

The Berlin economic administration does not want to leave it like this on request: The Senate Administration knows the company well, according to a statement. There are also contacts between Zeitfracht and the state’s economic development agency, Berlin Partner. “We are always available to talk to about location issues, but we also have to be addressed if something goes wrong or support is required. This offer is available to all companies in the State of Berlin. We are also in close contact with the Zeitfracht company, ”said a spokesman for Senator for Economic Affairs Ramona Pop (Greens).

The administration also disagreed with the allegation that truck registrations took longer than usual. There is only one known case that took time. It was about a vehicle for which a separate report had to be drawn up. The process took four weeks – not several months, it said.

Zeitfracht would like to move closer to BER

According to Morgenpost information, the economic administration is now intensifying its efforts to keep time freight in Berlin or at least in the region. The logistician is toying with properties near the capital’s airport BER in Schönefeld, but is also open to moving away from Berlin entirely. There had already been discussions about this with business development agencies at other locations. Most recently, Pop’s State Secretary Barbro Dreher (Greens) had sought an exchange with the company and tried to smooth things over.
