Students from Sciences Po Toulouse, who occupy their premises, received Moustapha Amokrane from the music group Zebda. A visit to discuss music in politics, and above all to sing some songs of struggle in the midst of a period of mobilization.
At Sciences Po Toulouse, the music rang out all afternoon, almost three weeks after the start of the occupation of the premises by students, rejecting in particular the pension reform and their living conditions. As part of a musical workshop, they welcomed Moustapha Amokrane, singer of the group Zebda (group now separated).
The artist wanted to show his support to the students. He spoke to talk about music, and sang with them for almost an hour. “Being there is a way of expressing support for the students, and their desire to participate in the democratic debate. We think that democracy is questionable“, does he think.
After a debate organized on the theme “is music political?“, the artist listened to a choir of twelve students who sang Grenades of Clara Luciani and Song without fear, two feminist struggle songs. “I like the idea that music accompanies all moments of life: joy, love, nostalgia, but also combat. I find it very important“, he judges.

Among this choir, Léa, on the piano, delighted to welcome Moustapha. “It’s very cool to have someone who is motivated to come and meet us, and to play music together“, she smiles, a few minutes away from playing her piano notes in front of a very attentive audience.
Estelle, another student who is working hard to organize this musical workshop as best as possible, is also delighted. “It’s an honor, he’s a great person. We didn’t expect him to come“, she admits.
After the choir performance, the Toulouse singer also sang some songs, like one of the most famous of the group Zebda, Motivated. Particularly trained, the students also took up the song, even getting up to dance together. “It is a symbol of Toulouse music, which is committed. It makes sense to invite him”, reacts Emma, at the helm of the 100% female choir.
Moustapha Amokrane has an eye on what is happening in France and particularly in Toulouse, where the days of mobilization against pension reform are very well attended. “It’s comforting to be on the street alongside thousands of people. If being millions of people on the street has no value, it’s really problematic“, he says.
Since the students’ occupation, all Sciences Po Toulouse courses have been suspended. The occupation movement continues. No resumption date has yet been decided.
