For the first coming of this festival in the town in 2018, the public was able to attend a performance of Carmen de Bizet in front of the castle of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines).
With the pandemic from Covid-19, the major cultural events of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines) were, as in the rest of France, either simply canceled or postponed.
In July 2020, the Saint-Germanois were thus deprived of the third edition ofOpen air opera house who had to present Madame Butterfly from Giacomo Puccini.
Determined to find the public in 2021 to play this show, staged by Olivier Désbordes, the organizers of the festival have launched a vast support operation.
Deprived of its annual revenue in 2020
“The postponement of the 2020 edition deprives the festival of its annual revenues, which should have financed a part of the 2021 production,” explain the latter. Even if the show has been designed, the costs to be incurred in order to be ready to play in June 2021 are numerous: rehearsals by the artists, construction of the sets, making the costumes, carrying out educational actions in schools … “

It is possible to pay an amount giving right to a consideration ranging from € 15 for the program booklet, to € 600 for a personalized evening for 2 people.
It is also possible via the website to make a donation for those who wish.

July 2 and 3, 2021 in the castle park
Of the € 25,000 expected, more than 12,500 were raised. If nothing thwarts the organizers’ plans, the Madame Butterfly show should be played on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 July 2021 within the National domain of Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
Twelve other performances should take place in 5 other equally exceptional sites in Ile-de-France and 1 in Occitanie.
This operation also aims to allow the association to present the show Small Opera, “designed for a young audience of children from 4 years old”.
Five performances are planned, including one in Saint-Germain-en-Laye on July 3.
130 artists and technicians on stage and behind the scenes
Still in terms of numbers, Opéra en plein air, launched in 2001, has 130 artists and technicians on stage and behind the scenes, 26,000 spectators and 1,000 young people benefiting from their initiation program in the lyrical art.
