This study will study in particular the possibility, with the arrival of Tram 13 express in Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines) in 2022, of moving some of the buses to the swimming pool car park. (© Philippe Roudeillat / 78actu)
Destination of many people coming to take the RER A, but also the final destination for others traveling in particular to educational institutions of the municipality, the station pole of Saint-Germain-en-Laye (Yvelines) is taken by storm.
The agglomeration community and Ile-de-France Mobility have decided to finance a study on the latter.
The mayor hopes for solutions to improve the situation.
“We need to reorganize things here a bit”
“Obviously with 23,000 young people coming from everywhere every day, we realize that we are literally overwhelmed by the bus networks which are very dynamic, According to Ile-de-France Mobilités this means that the networks are also functioning well. well in the north-south or south-north connections than with towns outside Saint-Germain. I think we need to reorganize things here a bit. It’s very complicated because our entire bus system makes two roundabouts: one around the town hall and the other around the place André-Malraux, in front of the castle and the rue Saint-Louis. “
For Arnaud Péricard, this study would be an opportunity to bring out solutions to improve things.
Poolside buses
“This study would perhaps make it possible to optimize the management of bus flows a little, to see if, with the arrival of Tram 13, we could not have a certain number of buses coming from the north which could park directly on the parking by the swimming pool. The service can be done from the site thanks to the connection tunnel which joins the main room of the RER. This could concern in particular perhaps buses from Mesnil-le-Roi, Maisons-Laffitte, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine but also perhaps some of the buses from Poissy, plus those arriving from Cergy, ‘Achères… That would mean quite a few buses that would avoid taking the rue de Pontoise during rush hour. There is also a reflection to know if we go down a little more the buses from the square on the avenue Gambetta or not, if we make them turn before… We can also reverse the direction of traffic on rue de Gramont to make gyrations that avoid going into the city center. Afterwards, we have to see what the tram in July 2022 can generate on north-south flows. “
Consequence of the arrival of Tram 13 express
The study should indeed be able to analyze the impact of the arrival of Tram 13 express from 2022 on the network of bus.
“There are 2 opposing doctrines. There are those who say that the more gentle traffic you offer, the more people use it, that is to say that if we have a tram there will be more buses. There is an incentive effect. Others say there is a substitution effect that instead of taking the bus, people would take the tram. “
Solutions making it possible to regulate or reorganize the various travel flows present in the station area and the surrounding area could also emerge.
“Pedestrians do not use underground passages”
“The problem in this sector is that we have the flow of pedestrians, cyclists, cars and buses in a space that is very limited. It is complicated knowing in particular that there is a reluctance of pedestrians to use underground passages when there are two. When you are in front of the Brasserie du Théâtre, people do not take the tunnel to go to the RER A, they cross the square. Ditto on the other side for the tunnel that goes under rue de la Surintendance. “
The expectations of the agglomeration
“Our urban community wishes to initiate a study on the Saint-Germain-en-Laye station hub. This study will make it possible to search for avenues for improving the proper functioning of this station which is classified in the category of service centers for dense sectors in terms of urban travel in Ile-de-France ”, explained Laurence Bernard, second vice-president. -President in charge of western transport. The Agglomeration Community of Saint-Germain loops of the Seine (Casgbs) is considering the redevelopment of the multimodal hub in order to facilitate accessibility for users. “There is also an objective of securing flows, making bus stops accessible and developing intermodality,” continued the mayor of Pecq.
Many cyclists
Elected officials plan to “be particularly attentive to cyclists since this station welcomes 378 of them every day”. Ile-de-France Mobilités plans to participate in this process as a member of the cluster committee but also as the funder of the study prior to the development work. “For this study, Ile-de-France Mobilités is allocating our urban community a maximum subsidy of 100,000 euros, knowing that we have provided in the 2020 budget an envelope of 85,000 euros maximum. Laurence Bernard reminded the elected community members that the agglomeration has already initiated studies for the stations of Marly-le-Roi and Maisons-Laffitte. “This is therefore a third station hub. It seems important to me to work on the accessibility of our stations. “
A very nice program
The president of the agglomeration, Pierre Fond, underlined for his part that these station hubs are frequented on a daily basis by the inhabitants of the agglomeration. “This is a great program that touches the lives of our fellow citizens. The deliberation was adopted unanimously.
