It used to be quite common and obvious that we were able to look at the number of positive as well as negative evaluations of the published materials, perhaps just to be able to look at the results. However, for social media, these ratings are also crucial in terms of serving ads and other content recommendations, which applies to everyone, but also to a specific user whose rating on YouTube influences what other videos will be served to him by the algorithm.

Of course, nothing changes, but YouTube has decided to hide a number of negative reviews from the public. However, the author of the video will continue to have an overview of these.
But why will the number be hidden? According to YouTube, in order to prevent so-called “dislike attacks”, which we can see as similar to game review bombing. These are cases where a large number of people click a thumb down on a video, which may or may not be related to the content itself. It may also be that the author of the video has made an unacceptable word or expressed an uncomfortable opinion somewhere in the modern world.
YouTube writesthat aims to create an “inclusive and warm environment in which creators have the opportunity to succeed and not be afraid to manifest themselves”. However, this is just one of several planned steps to help YouTube protect authors from harassment. But we can ask how exactly should this step help the creators, when they themselves will still see the number of negative evaluations? They’re the only ones, so they may pretend that those thumbs down don’t exist at all, which is such a small lie in the pocket. –
But we’ll see what the next steps are in trying to fill the whole of YouTube with spring sunshine and fresh breezes.
