On the other hand, all those content creators do demand my attention. Do I have to keep putting energy into seeing useless shit that has nothing to do with the content?
I have turned off sponsor block from good channels such as ELECTROBOOM and a few others. But their blocks of sponsored content are also not as super annoying as most channels do.
You often see it in the video, they are usually just ads of 10+ minutes. I usually click them away within a few seconds/minutes, do you think I should be obliged to copy their sponsor? Ammehula. In addition, 99% of my YouTube watching is just in the background, as Discovery Channel or Cartoon Network were always on for me 20 years ago. If I hear the same 3 sponsors every 10 minutes, I go completely crazy. It’s a lot worse than past commercials, which rotated every few weeks and added new ones. On YouTube it’s about 3 sponsors with never-changing nonsense shit stories that your video comes across again.
What’s the point if I run into the same handful of sponsors for the thousandth time? Because after watching 999 times, the 1000th time will be the moment that I fall for the lie that VPNs keep me safe on the internet (hint hint, VPNs don’t make your internet more secure, they replace the point of trust).
I myself had practically stopped watching YouTube thanks to all those ads and sponsors, when I got to know sponsor block I started watching YouTube again and I found channels that I would never have seen otherwise. I share those channels again, help with extra views which is good for their stats and stuff.
If I’m forced to watch sponsors again, I’ll stop watching YouTube. Then those content creators are only further from home, but I’m n=1, will fascinate them anyway.
