The shootout was dramatic: First Rodrigo Valente for Porto and Junior Adamu for Salzburg failed. After Levi Faustino’s missed shot, a converted David Affengruber penalty would have meant the “young bulls” had risen – but the defender failed due to Porto goalkeeper Francisco Meixedo.
A little later, of all things, Meixedo found his master in Salzburg’s goalkeeper Daniel Antosch. The following, a total of 18th 911 used Wallison and shot his team in the round of 16 – the chance of winning the second title after 2017 is alive.
Balanced game
In regular time, Salzburg had taken the lead in the 23rd minute when Affengruber headed for a corner. Ten minutes later, Karim Adeyemi was unlucky with a cross shot. The equalization of Porto resulted from a controversial penalty that Fabio Vieira sank in the 39th minute.
The game was even in the second half. The strong Vieira put a free kick on the crossbar in the 58th minute, on the opposite side Adeyemi missed two good chances in the finish (82nd, 84th).
