For the HSG Verden-Aller, the eighth game in the youth handball league is already on this weekend. The young generation from the cathedral city is still waiting for the first success. Most recently, the protégés were relentlessly shown the limits by trainer Sascha Kunze from THW Kiel at 23:48. In the second home game in a row, the time is now ripe for something countable, the coach thinks. Because on the upcoming opponent, the JSG HLZ Ahlen, the Verden have already met in the preliminary round and have only just lost 33:35.
“In the crucial moments we made one or the other wrong decision”, the trainer looks back on the comparison with the climber. “Ahlen comes with a strong goalkeeper and a good middle man”, Kunze is aware of the opponent’s strengths. The HSG Verden-Aller coach did not miss the fact that the talents from the handball performance center were quite convincing in the previous two games of the main round: JSG has 2: 2 points after a win at MTV Lübeck and a defeat against the VfL Horneburg on the account. “But we mustn’t freeze in awe,” says Kunze.
