Youth club PvdA almost bankrupt due to mismanagement of former treasurers | Politics

The youth organization Young Socialists (JS) of the PvdA is virtually bankrupt due to financial mismanagement by two treasurers who have since left. The board of the youth club confirms reports about this from the daily newspaper NRC.

The treasurers would have spent more than 100,000 euros in total without proper financial accountability. The youth branch of the PvdA is considering taking legal action against the former administrators.

The equity of the left-wing youth association has evaporated in a short time: in the 2020 financial year a plus of more than 200,000 euros was recorded, and now it is a minus of 50,000 euros.

In November, parent association PvdA placed the Young Socialists under guardianship. Since then, every expenditure that the youth department wants to make must be approved by the PvdA. This is confirmed by the party board, which has also appointed a committee to advise the new JS board. In addition, all debts, with a total value of 60,000 euros, have been taken over by the PvdA.

According to the current board, the sharply deteriorated financial position of the Young Socialists is due to the reign of two treasurers who were in office from 2020 to 2022 and are no longer members. The JS has asked them for clarification about expenditures of more than 100,000 euros and wants to demand a refund from them if they do not, or inadequately, account.

The treasurer who was in office from September 2020 to June 2022 spent 67,000 euros, which is unclear. His successor, who took office in July last year, is worth 35,000 euros.

A company investigation agency called in by the board of the JS concluded in November that these two former treasurers had made several suspicious payments. The agency also suspects the former board members of having used association money to enrich themselves.
