The fourth grade pupils at the Friedrich Schelling School in Besigheim had to learn the poem at home during distance learning. In addition, they should do a rap in the style of a CD by the “Young Poets and Thinkers”. Felix found this rap “extremely boring, I knew I could do better,” says the nine-year-old. So he tried the lyrics and a melody at home. Felix plays drums and electric guitar, which helped, as did his brother Adrian (11), who also plays guitar. The two recorded their Fontane rap on their cell phones and showed it to their father Ralf, who is a sound engineer at the Forum in Ludwigsburg. “He said we can do better,” said Felix. And so rap became a professional sound mix. “I said to my father that I can get rich and famous if I stream it and thousands watch it,” says Felix. No sooner said than done, father Ralf, says mother Maria, didn’t want to stand in the way of his son’s happiness and so the song has been on all known streaming platforms as well as on YouTube since last Sunday. And the “Herr von Ribbeck” should not remain the last crazy classic of the young Herr Mattern: Felix already got a new poem as homework: “Vom Büblein auf dem Eis” by Friedrich Wilhelm Güll from the year 1894. “I don’t know yet, what I make of it, but I like rhyming poems and also old, German poems, they are so beautifully written, ”says Felix, who also reads a lot in other areas.
