Young Ajax received a visit on Friday evening from number two of the Kitchen Champion Division: Roda JC. The Limburgers are involved in an exciting battle for direct promotion to the Eredivisie. Hundreds of Roda supporters traveled to De Toekomst to support their club. The atmosphere was therefore excellent in Amsterdam.
Attractive opening phase
The spectators were rewarded with an attractive opening phase. Young Ajax fell behind within ten minutes. Goalkeeper Charlie Setford easily had the ball stolen by Sejk, who then shot in the 0-1 in front of an empty goal. Four minutes later, the Amsterdam promising team did something back through Vos. The midfielder broke free on the edge of the box and then fired the ball into the top corner: 1-1.
In the remainder of the first half, both teams created a few more chances, but this did not result in another goal. Young Ajax did suffer a setback. Anton Gaaei was forced to leave the field after more than half an hour with an injury. He was replaced by Alvaro Henry.
Despite the fact that the field play was not high-quality at De Toekomst, the second half was also very entertaining. Given the rankings, it was important for Roda JC to achieve a victory, which meant that the Limburgers increased the pressure on the Amsterdam goal. However, the Ajax players did not simply give up and were given several opportunities to take the lead.
Bouwman’s debut
In the final phase of the game, coach Dave Vos threw Aaron Bouwman to the wolves. The sixteen-year-old defender made his first appearance for Jong Ajax. With the youngster in the team, the score remained unchanged, allowing the Amsterdam promising team to score a nice point against Roda JC: 1-1.
