“You have been visited by the Nazis in your area.” Right-wing leader convicted of intimidating journalists

By Phil Helsel – NBC News

A neo-Nazi leader who was behind a plot to threaten and intimidate journalists and people related to the Anti-Defamation League was convicted of five federal charges on Wednesday, according to the prosecution.

Kaleb Cole, 25, described as the leader of an Atomwaffen group [una red terrorista neonazi formada en 2015] from Washington state, he was convicted by a jury after a two-day trial.

The plot consisted of sending posters with phrases such as “You have been visited by the Nazis in your area.” In one case, a poster was taped to the window of the Arizona home of an editor of a Jewish publication.

Cole was convicted of conspiracy, three counts of sending threatening messages and one count of interference with an activity protected by the federal government, according to the District Attorney for the Western District of Washington.

Most charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison. Interfering with an activity protected by the federal government takes up to 10 years.

Three other people previously pleaded guilty in the case. Cameron Shea, another Atomwaffen leader, was sentenced last month to three years in prison.

Two others in Arizona and Florida, who have renounced their previous views and associations with the group, received lesser sentences. All four were arrested and charged last year.

Cole, who used to live in Washington, had his guns seized under a “red flag” law in 2019 after authorities said he appeared to be preparing a “race war.”
