The preparation of beans is very tedious. They are traditionally soaked in water overnight before preparation. When you decide in the morning that you want to make beans for lunch, you can focus on canned beans. Or try another method, thanks to which they need a much shorter soaking time.

Prepare water, 0.5 kg of beans, 3 slices of lemon, onion and pressure cooker. Soak the beans in water with lemon slices and let them soak for 1.5 hours. Then drain the water, transfer the beans to a pressure cooker and cover. The water should reach about 2 cm above the beans. Add the peeled onion to the pot and let it cook for 15 minutes. Turn off the stove and let the beans rest.

The beans will soften thanks to the mineral water

A great trick to soften the beans is to substitute mineral water for plain water. Thanks to this, they only need one instead of several hours. Sugar also acts as an accelerator of softening during cooking, which speeds up the entire process of softening the beans. Another helper can be baking soda. You add it while cooking, then finally you need to sprinkle the beans with lemon juice. Otherwise, the beans may lose their flavor.

Beans should be included in the diet regularly. They are full of health-promoting substances, help with liver and kidney disease, and have a beneficial effect even with higher cholesterol. They strengthen the heart and blood circulation, and they also have a low energy value. It is also suitable for a diet menu. There is no need to eat a dizzying amount of them, rather less, especially if you are not used to them. Otherwise, you could be surprised by unpleasant bloating.

How to prevent bloating

You need to soak them. Soaking time varies for different types of beans. Herbs that reduce flatulence are also helpful – bay leaf, marjoram or cumin. In Japan, Nori or Komba seaweed is added to the beans when cooking. It will reduce bloating, and the beans will soften faster.
