Yemen: Centcom, 11 Houthi drones intercepted

The US Army Central Command (Centcom) announced today that it intercepted 11 Houthi drones yesterday and destroyed them.

We read in a statement released on platform “X”: “Between approximately 4:15 am and 6:00 am (Sana’a time) on April 10, US Central Command forces successfully intercepted three aerial vehicles unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. Two drones were launched over the Gulf of Aden and one drone was launched over the Red Sea. There were no reports of casualties or damage from US, coalition or commercial vessels.”

The note continued: “Then, between approximately 7:50 pm and 8:00 pm (Sana’a time), US Central Command forces managed to engage and destroy eight drones in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen in self-defense.”

Centcom says drones have been determined to pose an imminent threat to the United States, coalition ships, and commercial vessels in the region. For this reason he explained that “these actions are taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer for the United States, coalition and commercial vessels”.

Yemeni media linked to the Houthi rebels reported last night that American and British planes launched three raids on Hodeidah International Airport in Yemen.

Subsequently, it was reported that American and British aircraft launched 4 raids in the Al-Jabanah area in Yemen’s Hodeidah governorate.

This comes as the Houthi group’s military spokesman, Yahya Saree, said the group targeted four ships in the Gulf of Aden yesterday with drones and naval missiles, stressing that one of them was an American warship.

The spokesperson added in a statement that the group “targeted the MS Sea Darwin and the MS Sea Gina… The American ship Yorktown… and an American warship in the Gulf of Aden were also targeted by numerous drones.
