Wednesday she submitted her application to the central election commission, which approves the candidates. She must have 300,000 signatures to run.

Earlier this week, Putin submitted his papers. Wednesday night writing Russian media that Nikolaj Kharitonov will be the communists’ candidate in the presidential election.

Ekaterina Duntsova is trained as both a journalist and a lawyer and comes from the Tver region, where she has been a member of the city council in the small town of Rzhev.

– The country has moved in the wrong direction in the last ten years. The course is set for self-destruction, she signs its website.

– Every day the life of ordinary Russians becomes more and more difficult. Citizens cannot freely express their opinions if they do not coincide with those of the authorities. The number of political prisoners is growing, hundreds of thousands of people have been driven out of the country, she continues.

Ekaterina Duntsova believes that Russia will soon have no friends – as a result of the war in Ukraine.

– The last allies are Iran, North Korea and Eritrea, but they too may soon turn away, she writes.

Some speculate whether she may be placed as a presidential candidate by the Kremlin – to give a semblance of democracy. In an interview with Reuters recently she denied it:

– I have no connection to the Kremlin, oligarchs or large companies. None of them support me, she replied.

On Wednesday, however, the state-controlled Russian media tried to link her to the well-known Putin opponent and oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky.

– The media cite political scientists and experts that Duntsova is connected to the fugitive oligarch Khodorkovsky, writes RIA.

Khodorkovsky owned the oil company Yukos, but fell out with Putin and was put in prison. In 2013 – exactly ten years ago on Wednesday – he was finally released, fled Russia and has since lived in Switzerland.

At the same time, Nikolaj Kharitonov will therefore become the presidential candidate for the Communists. This means that the leader of the communists for the past 30 years, Gennadij Zyuganov, has been destroyed. Kharitonov was also a presidential candidate in 2004. Then he received 13.7 percent of the vote, second behind Putin with 71 percent.

Kharitonov is 75 years old. Party leader Zjuganov, 79 years old.
