JD Martinez stretched his arm in overtime to give the Boston Red Sox a 5-3 lead over the Cleveland Indians at the Progressive field.
The American slugger allowed Jarren Duran and Kyle Schwarber to cross the plate in 10e to give his team a three-point lead. Oscar Mercado tried to strike back, but his single created the Indians’ only offensive production in overtime.
Nick Wittgren (2-7) started a third of an inning committing a fatal error in overtime, deserving the defeat.
Among the “Bas Rouges”, eight artillerymen shared the work. Of this lot, it is Garrett Whitlock (6-2) who was able to register the victory in his record. Adam Ottavino ensured the rescue of his training.
The race for the playoffs
In the American, the Seattle Mariners fell 4-2 against the Kansas City Royals, which moved them away 5.5 games from the last ticket that gives access to the playoffs, held by the Red Sox. The latter kept their lead of 3.5 duels over the “A’s”, while approaching the Yankees, who are positioned as the first team of the best second.
