Yamaha Unveils New Electric Platform and Seven Concept Vehicles for Tokyo Auto Salon Debut

Following Nissan, Yamaha announced its new products for the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon. Moreover, this will be her first participation in such an event, although Yamaha has been participating in traditional Tokyo motor shows for many years. The company will not show full-fledged cars, but it is preparing seven very different vehicles at once, which are built on a single electric platform.

The unified electric trolley has a simple name – Yamaha Motor Platform Concept. It is designed specifically for low-speed vehicles, and includes a wide variety of bodies and superstructures. This is facilitated by Honda’s flexible traction battery architecture: you can choose the size, shape and capacity for specific vehicles. Unfortunately, the characteristics of this platform have not yet been announced.

All seven announced concepts can be divided into two groups. The first consists of clear and practical machines that represent an evolution of existing products. For example, this is the classic Yamaha Concept 310 golf cart and the Concept 580 all-terrain vehicle. And the Concept 451 can be imagined as the personal vehicle of the 21st century farmer. The compact Concept 350 continues the golf theme, but this time in a single-seat format.

The second group of concepts are futuristic vehicles that are still difficult to imagine on current roads. And the most provocative looking “Cybertruck larva” is the single-seat “mobility capsule” Yamaha Concept 160 for moving around the city (in the title photo). The Concept 294 three-wheeled truck is made in a deliberate neo-retro style. Well, the Concept 682 is an ATV with an extremely simple body and long-travel suspension.

All of these concepts clearly demonstrate how flexible the new platform can be. Its prospects will be revealed from January 12 to 14 during the Tokyo Auto Salon.
