Yamaha SR-C20A and SR-B20A: Two new soundbars launch

Yamaha has introduced two new entry-level soundbars: the Yamaha SR-C20A and SR-B20A. They will appear in autumn 2020 and will cost 252 and 272 euros respectively. Both soundbars integrate the subwoofer directly and can also be controlled via Yamaha’s companion app.

According to Yamaha, the SR-C20A in particular blends in inconspicuously in the living room – the “C” stands for “Compact”. In view of the price range, one should certainly not expect too much from the sound and Dolby Atmos is also missing, for example, because one remains nailed to Dolby Digital. With a width of 600 mm (SR-C20A) and 910 mm (SR-B20A) and a height of only 64 or 53 mm, the new soundbars are at least space-saving.

According to Yamaha, the SR-C20A offers a solid sound with two full-range speakers, a bass speaker and two passive membranes. The slightly larger model SR-B20A achieves a little more space with its real two-way system and two integrated subwoofers. Both soundbars are covered with black fabric and have control elements and an LED display on the top. The look reminds me strikingly an die Anker Soundcore Infini Pro.

Only the SR-B20A supports DTS Digital Surround and DTS Virtual X in addition to Dolby Digital. With four switchable sound modes, both soundbars offer the choice between Stereo, “Movie”, “Standard” and “Game”. The voices can also be raised with Clear Voice. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, optical inputs, aux, subwoofer output (only SR-B20A) and HDMI ARC with CEC on board. eARC? – Nothing.

The new compact Yamaha soundbars SR-C20A and SR-B20A will appear in the autumn at the prices mentioned above of 252 and 272 euros respectively. To get started, the soundbars could be quite solid if the requirements are adjusted accordingly.
