In late summer 2021, Yadegar Asisi will open its eighth 360 ° panorama in the Leipzig Panometer with NEW YORK 9/11. In preparation for this, a two-day photo shoot with extras took place in Berlin this week. The circular image will show various street scenes on a seemingly normal morning in the New York borough of Manhattan a few moments before the attacks on September 11, 2001.

In late summer of this year, Yadegar Asisi will open his eighth 360 ° panorama in the Leipzig Panometer with NEW YORK 9/11. In preparation for this, a two-day photo shoot took place in Berlin this week. The panorama will show the New York borough of Manhattan a few moments before the attacks on September 11, 2001 and depict a spectrum of different street scenes on a typical autumn morning in the city. You can see crowds of people on their way to their offices as well as streams of tourists in front of the World Trade Center and the multicultural togetherness and confrontation in New York’s rush hour traffic. With the photo shoot in the Berlin hangar on January 20 and 21, 2021, many of these scenes were recorded under the direction of Yadegar Asisis with extras from various origins. Almost 25 Asisis employees took care of the make-up image, suitable props and costumes or the care of the 30 extras on site every day, taking into account the strictest hygiene measures. For the second time, the studio in southeast Berlin served as the location for a photo shoot for a future panorama project by the artist. Yadegar Asisi last photographed extras here in 2019 for the upcoming Panorama KONZIL VON KONSTANZ.

“In the last few years, our photo shoots have almost turned into small film projects,” says Asisi. “This year, the shooting was again a real challenge due to the current situation. In times like these, the question about our response to violence and the perceived loss of control takes on a very special meaning and, above all, relevance to September 11th.” Alongside DRESDEN 1945 and LEIPZIG 1813, the round picture will represent Yadegar Asisi’s third anti-war project. As soon as museum visits are possible again, those interested in culture can visit the 360 ° panorama CAROLAS GARTEN in the Panometer Leipzig until summer 2021.
