Recently, the lawsuits filed in the fight against the pandemic have plagued many of the fines imposed on individuals last year. It would seem that people who did “nothing so terrible” were fined 500, 1,500 and sometimes even 5,000 euros in court and still had to rejoice that they were subject to a minimum penalty.
This reminded us of the power of the financial punishment tools available to the rule of law: in our country, fines of a truly impressive size can be imposed for various crimes, especially serious or universally dangerous ones.
Judge of the Supreme Court in a special comment 15min emphasized that the level of fines imposed on individuals must be adequate, commensurate with both the crimes they commit and the purpose of the sentence. And real financial penalties should be imposed on a case-by-case basis: both what is punishable through the pocket and what is punished.
