Xiaomi: its CEO caught in the act of using an iPhone, the fans are angry

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi, has just been caught in the bag: he dared to use an iPhone to post a message on Weibo! The post has since been deleted, but too late: the damage is done, fans of the brand are enraging.

This is information that makes Xiaomi fans jump and Apple fans smile. Lei Jun, founder and current and CEO of the Chinese brand, recently posted a message on Weibo, a popular social network in China. So far nothing abnormal except that Lei Jun seems to have it using a competitor’s phone. And not content with not using a smartphone from the Xiaomi factories, he did it mainly using a phone that does not ship Android, but iOS. Yes, you read correctly : Lei Jun posted a message on Weibo using an iPhone.

Lei Jun uses an iPhone, Apple fans are outraged

When you are the CEO of one of the biggest smartphone companies in the world, it is better to insure your back and always use a brand model. However, you’re never immune to a little mistake and this is what Lei Jun, who posted on Weibo using an iPhone, just learned. Because Weibo detects the smartphone used by its users, in particular to identify the models in preparation.

The use of this competing model by the CEO had enough to cause a real outcry, sometimes amused, sometimes embittered, on the side of the followers of Xiaomi, whether on Twitter, Weibo or among the comments of Toutiao.com (in Chinese). Analyst and partner Pan Jiutang tried to come to the rescue of the CEO by explaining that, when you’re at the head of a company like Xiaomi, it’s normal to be interested in competition. But nothing worked: fans continue to mock or rebel at this use.

If Apple products are unquestionably successful around the world, and macOS even manages to nibble a few market shares against Windows, this is not yet the case in China. There, brands like Xiaomi, Oppo or Huawei dominate the market. The iPhone is a pretty popular smartphone there, but some estimates (getting reliable figures for this country is almost impossible), the iPhone only represents 10% of the Chinese market share.
