Xbox Shares Information About Xbox Exclusives From Obsidian Entertainment and Compulsion

More information has been revealed about two Xbox exclusives in the works at Obsidian Entertainment (The Outer Worlds, Fallout: New Vegas) and Compulsion (We Happy Few).

Obsidian’s game is codenamed Pentiment, reports Windows Central. It will be an “indie-like” title, which means that a smaller team is working on it (according to WC 12 men) and it will not hinder the production of The Outer Worlds 2 too much. ‘Pentiment’ refers to a phenomenon in paintings, where images, figures, etc. on an underlayer of the paint become visible because the top layer of the painting becomes transparent as time passes. The game also has to do with that, because as a player you will take on the role of a kind of 16th-century detective to unravel a mystery surrounding a bloody murder.

At the helm of Pentiment is Josh Sawyer, the man who was also responsible for leading the development of Fallout: New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity. In terms of gameplay, it seems to be similar to Disco Elysium and the aforementioned games; so expect lots of dialogue and important choices like blaming characters. According to Jeff Grubb, game writer and podcast host, Pentiment should see the light of day in 2022.

The first game that Compulsion, known from We Happy Few, will release under the Xbox banner is codenamed Midnight. It should be a third-person action game with a “dark fantasy world” as the setting. You can check out the first shared concept art below: in the middle is the main character, assisted by a harpy-like creature and a nest that could well belong to that harpy. It is described as a single player game with a ‘coming of age’ story that draws inspiration from the American ‘deep south’. Nothing is known about the release date yet.
