Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) noted a decline in the number of banking offices operating in the country. It is estimated that the number of banking offices has decreased by around 5,000 to date.
Executive Director of the Head of the OJK Banking Research and Regulation Department, Anung Herlianto, said the closure of around 5,000 of these offices came from commercial bank offices.
He said, the number of commercial banks in the country is currently 95 with a total of 27,927 offices. The total assets of commercial banks reached Rp. 8,883.28 trillion
“The number of offices has decreased, without us feeling lost, let alone millennial friends. So it doesn’t matter if the office is lost, there are 5,000 thousand offices, this is digitization,” said Anung, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia from detik.com, Saturday (1/5/2021).
Meanwhile, for Islamic banks, Anung said the number is currently 12 Islamic commercial banks, with 20 Islamic business units (UUS). The number of sharia banking offices is around 2,022 with total assets of Rp. 393.17 trillion.
Furthermore, there are BPRs with a total of 1,503 with a number of offices reaching 5,885 offices and total assets reaching Rp. 154.97 trillion.
“So the total assets will be Rp 9,431.42 trillion,” he said.
