Would you vote for the same party if there were new elections? | Join the conversation

It has never happened in the Netherlands before that people have to go to the polls again because parties cannot agree on the formation of a new cabinet. Part of the House of Representatives is already in favor of new elections. Parties PVV, SP, Party for the Animals, Forum for Democracy, Denk, Groep Van Haga and BBB do not believe that it will be anything yet.

Failed

A majority coalition has already proved unsuccessful. This was due to various parties that did not want to work together or did not want to work together. For example, VVD (Rutte) and CDA (Hoekstra) want to work together, but not with the left-wing bloc that the Labor Party (Ploumen) and GroenLinks (Klaver) had formed for the formation. D66 (Kaag) first did not want to join the ChristenUnie (Segers) and now it does.

After this, informateur Johan Remkes had to investigate the possibilities of a minority government. But this is also not going to work, it turned out on Tuesday. Meanwhile, more and more members of the outgoing cabinet have resigned. Kaag (Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Defense (Bijleveld) recently resigned. State Secretary Mona Keijzer was even fired last weekend.

Remkes today calls on middle parties to reach a collaboration. “The moment has really come for the factions of all parties from the broad and constructive middle to take responsibility for this,” said the informateur. He wants to talk to VVD, D66, CDA, PvdA, GL, CU, Volt, SGP and the Den Haan fraternity on Wednesday.
